Air India: On an aerial upswing

This year, Air India completed one of the most daunting feats in India's corporate world, the merger of Indian with Air India, two public sector giants. The new entity is called 'Air India'. The latest move will result in tremendous synergies between the two airlines. The merger of Air India and Indian will provide an integrated international and domestic footprint, which will significantly enhance customer service and convenience, besides facilitating easy entry into a global airline alliance.

It has provided an opportunity to fully leverage strong assets, capabilities, infrastructure and skilled and experienced manpower available with both the companies to the optimum potential.

In due course, the new Air India will become the defining feature of Indian civil aviation, and will be counted amongst the top ten airlines in the world. The merged entity, which will have a fleet of 115 plus aircraft initially, will offer passengers seamless travel across domestic and international routes. It will also have one of the youngest fleets amongst the international airlines.
