City ups overseas travel

HCM City — About 70,000 tourists from HCM City and adjacent provinces departed through the city’s Tan Son Nhat Airport in February for overseas destinations, 25 per cent more than in the same period last year, according to the city’s Department of Tourism.

Popular destinations included Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Saigontourist last year provided tours of China for 6,000 domestic tourists, more than any other destination to which it conducts overseas tours. In the first two months of this year, the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting China surged 30 per cent over the same period last year. — VNS
