JTB sees wave of Japan retirement travelers
A fresh survey of middle-aged Japanese consumers confirms that widespread intention to celebrate retirement through overseas travel.
Research by the Japan Travel Bureau finds that more than 50 percent of Baby Boomers of retirement age -- born between 1946-1950 -- took a trip, or are considering or planning a trip, to commemorate their retirement.
The survey, reported by Travel Journal International and disseminated to Hawaii tourism executives this month by the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, finds that only 22.4 percent did not, or do not plan to, travel after retiring. Fully 93.8 percent who do plan to travel, said they plan to travel with their spouses.
