Malaysia celebrates golden jubilee
On August 31st this year, Malaysia is celebrating 50 years of independence and to mark the occasion the streets of Kuala Lumpur cfwill play host to a series of colourful parades, cultural performances, and carnivals throughout August. Independence, or 'Merdeka' Day has always been commemorated by parades, but it is only in recent years that celebrations have lasted all month.
The forthcoming golden jubilee celebration will see crowds forming in the capital's Merkeda Square on August 30th for the countdown to the main event. Tourism Malaysia is welcoming visitors from all over the globe to join in the festivities, not only in August but all year round.
The annual 'Citrawarna' or Colours and Flavours of Malaysia parade will this year run from May 26th until June 10th and tourists are invited to get a glimpse of Malaysian culture in the biggest planned celebrations yet.
