Malaysia courting Canadian travel dollars

Malaysia's tourism minister settles into a comfortable seventh-floor Vancouver hotel suite and offers a compelling reason for Canadians to visit his country.

"We're a value-for-money destination," Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan said in an interview on Thursday. "This suite cost us something like $300 to $400, but it would only cost $160 US at a five-star hotel in Malaysia. A basic room would only be $70 US to $100 US."

Adnan is halfway through an eight-day North American trade mission that also takes him to New York, Toronto and Los Angeles. It's the country's first road show here in three years, and coincides with Malaysia's 50th anniversary of independence and its Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign.
