Mongolia supports S. Korea on nuclear disarmament issue
Mongolia announced last week that it supports South Korean efforts to engage North Korea in dialogue to encourage nuclear disarmament.
"The Mongolian government highly supports South Korea's stance on the North Korean nuclear issue," Mongolian President Nambar Enkhbayar said following a meeting with South Korean lawmakers.
Speaker of the South Korean National Assembly, Lim Chae-jung, expressed his gratitude to President Enkhbayar for his support in dealing with the difficult issue of North Korean nuclear arms. He also asked for Mongolian support as South Korea seeks to host the 2012 International Exposition and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
President Enkhbayar said he encouraged dialogue between the two Koreas, as it will also benefit Ulaanbaatur.
Referring to the recent agreement to allow trains to travel between the two Koreas, Enkhbayar said, "If the railroad re-linking project moves forward, it is expected to pass through Mongolia. That will make great contributions to the development of bilateral economies."
