Canadians advised not to travel in south Philippines

Canadians have been advised not to travel to south Philippines, particularly in the areas of Sulu and Zamboanga.

In a travel advisory issued on Monday, the Canadian Embassy in Manila said the threat of a terrorist attack could occur anytime in the region and that Canadians should only go there if there are "critical, compelling business or family reasons."

"Continuing reports suggest that there is an ongoing terrorist threat to Westerners and Western interests in the Philippines. Philippine authorities have warned that there may be bomb attacks in Manila and other key cities," the advisory said.
