Travel from China to the Southwest at Gallery Night

Here are some of the things you can do at tonight’s Gallery Night Providence: take a crash course in Chinese history at URI’s downtown gallery, contemplate an otherworldly landscape at the Bell Gallery on College Hill, learn more about how local artists live and work at the Bert Gallery in Corliss Landing and sample the work of legendary Southwestern artist Malcolm Furlow at the Gallery at 17 Peck in the Financial District.

In all, 19 galleries, museums and historical sites will be participating in this month’s Gallery Night, which takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. As usual, a fleet of free art buses will ferry visitors between galleries. Free parking is available at several sites around the city, including the Metropark lot behind One Citizens Plaza (also a convenient place to pick the art buses) and the Providence Art Club parking lot on Benefit Street.
