Vietnam should scout for tourists in Russia: expert

Sergey E Korneev, deputy head of the Russian Travel Union, said Vietnamese cities and towns like Hanoi and Hoi An had many historical sites and beaches which held great attraction to travelers from his country.

Korneev, who led a delegation of travel agents from Saint Petersburg and other cities in northwestern Russia this week, believed that if Vietnamese tour operators promoted their products in Russia they would receive support from local partners.

After the four-day trip which ended Monday, he said members of the delegation had shown great interest in investing in Vietnam and cooperating with local players.

Russians had known Vietnam for long as a “nation of war” and were not aware of its beauties, he said, advising Vietnamese travel agents to bridge this information gap.

Russian travelers had been attracted to Europe in the past but had now switched their sights to Asia, providing Vietnam an opportunity, he said.
